Doo Nanny- Seal, AL

Monday, April 2, 2012

DOO-NANNY
One large tambourine calus, a burning vagina (wooden sculpture that is), talented new friends, vivaciousrain storm, cappuccino and caramel rum, and some dancing tunes started off the weekend @ Doo Nanny.

This festival never fails to impress and amaze me. Being only my second year to visit, the Nanny sprouts, and quite frankly boasts, an incredibly engaging and talented group of southern (and northern ha) folk. From the raging artists and cooks, adorable kiddos in overalls and duck boots, wigs and feather clips, and some filthy feet, I left Seal, Alabama energized in anticipation of next year.

It seems like escaping the daily routine really jump starts your thoughts and creativity. Lily and I were surrounded by some quirky and sincere friends this rainy weekend. Here are a few photos to prove it!

If you do not know of Butch Anthony, or the Doo Nanny, I invite you to take a peak, and even tag along for a weekend next year that you will never forget. Not to mention Butch's house...everything seems to have it's perfect place. The overlooked, the discarded, the forgotten- it all gets transformed into a handcrafted colorful oasis. Something you simply have to see to believe.

Moss Rock Festival

Sunday, November 6, 2011

This weekend has been filled with art and cold toes, painted faces, bunting and plenty of granny squares. Lily was out of town this time around, but my friend Blair hung with me Saturday... we munched on some gyros and cheese straws while thinking of a thirty second elevator pitch to explain what a "seed bomb" was. So, here's to a beautiful Sunday filled with new friends and some bartered art!
A supa huge thanks to Mrs. Blair hanging and helping me in the chilly weather Saturday.
more photos to come...

This past weekend, a couple of my friends and I hosted an end of the summer art show/party. Porch Lights! There were over a dozen artists set up in a beautiful historic home in downtown Birmingham. The house was alive with color, people, food, music and dancing. Raphael moved all of her furniture from inside the house, and sprinkled it throughout the wrap around porch and front yard. The night was breezy, sangrias were in hand, and twinkle lights consumed the fallen sun. It was a splendid night overall.

Birdies- my latest sculpture

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

Photobucket

Here are a few photos from my most recent sculpture piece. You have no idea how many birdies I have made out of records! I got a little tired of it for a while but I'm glad that I stuck with it. The final installation is currently being displayed in the student center at the University of Alabama. As always, Gavin helped out any way he could, which meant in this case handling the power tools. He drilled one too many holes at first, but it eventually worked out.

I just have no idea where I am going to put these birds once they come out of the gallery. Anyone want to purchase an installation? If you live close enough I will even come install them! Otherwise my floor is going to be filled with birds haha.

As always my friends took the opportunity to play around and snatch some pretty awesome photos! School was out so there were only a handful of people who came to the opening reception.

AppleSeed Vintage booth at Druid City Art Fest

Sunday, March 28, 2010

AppleSeed Vintage made the front page of the Tuscaloosa News. Check out the article here. This past weekend I held an art booth at the Druid City Art festival. I had so much fun, it was unbelievable. I sold more than half of the items I brought out, it turned out to be a huge success, and I cant wait to do it again very soon. My sister Lily, and I held down the fort as the wind tried to blow over our display every chance it got. After I had completely duck taped down the mannequins and clothes rack I could get back to selling beautiful vintage clothes and handmade jewelry.

Here are a few pictures from the event.

So many people were curious as to how I have collected so many vintage items. Years worth of thrifting, antique shopping, and searching through y grandmothers attic was the answer.

I designed a business card the night before, and had about 40 of them printed at FedEx. I ran out of them within the first two hours of the event, so I had to keep writing out my store website on a piece of paper and handing it out. Here is the business card I designed.

My incredibly talented younger sister created these treasure/shadow boxes that she had for sale. Every single one of them sold except for the one that kept breaking when it was thrown around by thee wind. Lily also worked on wrapped crystals during the event, each time she finished wrapping a crystal and placed it on the table it would sell instantly.

I though it would be neat for you to create your own custom jewelry stand at the event. I displayed a few of my plates and candle stands so guests could pick their own design. Lily helped me glue them together, then you could pick them up when they were dry. There were a few people who put together the most unusual combination, I wish I would have taken pictures of them all.

Lovely ladies checking out my booth.

lily gluing all of the jewelry stands.

I enjoyed thsis experience so much! I cant wait to find some more art festivals to display my work. Special thanks to my boyfriend Gavin who drove everything around, helped me set up and take down, and even brought lily and I lunch on that sunny windy day. And thanks to Lily!! I could not have done it all without you.
