Ali + Brad get hitched! Covington, LA

Monday, October 20, 2014

A few weekends ago I spent a beautiful three days in Covington, LA helping my friends Ali and Brad get hitched! This was my first impromptu attempt at wedding planning, but a majority of the heavy lifting and creativity came from the entire wedding party and plenty of friends and family. Every little detail was thought through; from the savory stacked cakes, to fresh picked flower & hand painted directional signs the wedding could not have been more beautiful.
Here are a few picks from the weekend.
Mad kudos to the DJ who managed to keep the dance floor packed until about 2 a.m.

peanut butter sweaters

life changes. shit happens.
the shit you try to avoid at all costs. but can't. it just happens.
you just deal with it, the best way you know how.
i've been inspired recently. with the little things. the small encouragements.
a silly doughnut app on my iphone, the cutest drool bubbles and smiles from my nephew.
i've had lots of smiles, and a few good cries in these past couple of days.
and it seems everywhere i turn i get to download my personal tid bits with someone.
people are so damn curious, especially when you don't care for them to be.
but verbalizing anything makes me feel better. it becomes real.
connecting with friends is truly a gift, and connecting with sisters is just a dream.
seriously i am so lucky, and so thankful every day.
my little sister told me something yesterday.
naturally it made my mind twist a bit. she was referring to a real frustrating situation. well, i think.
it might seem petty in the grand scheme of things.
but that moment, oh that moment, it was the end all.
her perspective was just damn spot on.
she said "it's like trying to put a peanut butter sweater on a rabbit"
i mean shit. that girl cant splat out the most random and inspiring nonsense i can't handle.
but it made me laugh, and stuck in my mind.
thanks bean.
some situations are just akward, sticky and flat random.
sometimes your emotions get the best of you.
and sometimes you look back on a day and it brings a huge smile to your face.
it was just one of those days.
i forget how much i like this blogging thing.

Sister Love in DENVER

Monday, May 26, 2014

Not a single day passes I don't miss my sisters like crazy. It's funny- I didn't realize how much I depended on them, until they both moved out of the HAM. Lily Reeves, my younger sister, found herself in Alfred, NY pursuing her artistic endeavors, blowing glass, pouring iron, writing poems, per Dily Bean usual- kicking ass!!  Chrisy, my older sister moved to Denver, Colorado last year with her boyfriend Esteban. Denver is perfect for them, it's like everyone follows a silent code of eating organic, recycling, loving mother earth, and biking everywhere you go- they love it! I loved it- the mother betsy in me was all about it!
This past week, was one of the best in my life! I spent an entire week with BOTH sisters, a rare jewel these days. My older sister Chrisy recently had her first child, Gaiam Evren, the Denver way- medicine free, home water birth (wowza).  It's kind of magical spending time with them both (Chrisy & Esteban)  she is an incredible mother, so patient, loving, just a touch OCD, and always nursing, haha.
Gaiam Evren is 7 weeks old, he is the perfect little monkey, making smiling faces, crossing his eyes like a goob, sleeping on your belly just at the right times, and taking every kiss you send his way.  On top of all my baby love- we spent the week exploring Denver! Here are a few favorite moments from the trip! I can't wait to go back, and already prepped a bucket list fro my return.
Shiny Food Fever Clearance- LEON (he was fun!)
Lina Tagliapietria- incredibly intricate and beautiful glass!
 The stellar shops on Broadway
My beautiful family! The hugs, the baby kisses, the horrible jokes and smelly farts, the messy rooms, and love of art, the patience, the love, these are my sisters & donuts from VOODOO!

The cutest lil Gaiam Evren at 7 weeks old. Had I stayed for longer, this series would have gone on for years! It was fun capturing all his many outfits, facial expressions and interested. I love him so!
And of course my two favorite parents with the cutest little boy I ever did see.
Love you and moss you all everyday! Move closer to me so I can spoil that boy!

stylish grub

blueberry & raspberry tart
with vanilla bean ice cream

Kind of how tall skinny glasses makes that $5 wine taste better, and honey is cuter in a honey-bear... Food photography simply blows my mind.
top of the list this year for me- is to cook, capture and share.
I admit I have some high standards- these guys below are total pros! But you have to start somewhere right?!
it starts with by scouring thrift stores for colorful, elegant & tacky kitchen wares; scoring the perfect concrete counter top, elegant mismatched silverware, and spring flowers to spruce up the delicious grub.
i like things messy- i like it colorful and almost accidental.
I started with a #GRUB Board on Pinterest.
Let these little luscious nuggets inspire you too!

Escaping the sleet & snow that seem to have sprinkled the South these past couple of weeks - I retreat to one of my favorite spots, Church Street Coffee & Books. A spicy chai latte and a snowy day playlist to browse a few of my favorite blogs and ETSY stores for inspiration.

Chinese New Year & Spring Sprucing

Friday, January 31, 2014

I am considering this Chinese celebration as an opportunity to give my condo a fresh renovated start. Chinese New Year literally translates to Spring Festival. This is my attempt, or at least first step to spring cleaning and renovation! My mission- to finally fix up/ clean up/ art up the condo!
My Pinterest board has grown from ideas to obsessive looks. I have narrowed down my style into an elegant, colorful, art-filled cozy space. I promise it is possible, with my expert thrifting, and shopping on a budget skills, the condo should be ready by summer! (This includes a few minor contract needs) Lets start with the entry way/living room- it's all about curating the perfect space.

1. mid-century piece (we already own) it just needs some lovelies on top,
and a few pieces of artwork on the walls

Beauties in the Bay

Thursday, January 9, 2014

Why have we not visited sooner? Michael & my two sisters decided to meet-up in San Francisco for Christmas. My aunt Ginger & uncle Wayne live in Berkeley, perfectly positioned on a quant hill across from the historical Claremont Hotel. I spent about 10 days traveling through Berkeley, Oakland & San Francisco with new friends and cousins. I might have to break this into ten posts!, but here are a few of my favorite spots. Let's start with SF:

The de Young Musuem  perfectly nestled in the Golden Gate Park this architecturally impressive museum showcases priceless collections of American art from the 17th through the 20th centuries, textile arts, and art of Africa, Oceania and the Americas. Michael and I toured the David Hockney exhibition - & I was blown away by the work, and the museum's efforts to encourage visitors to share their experience and excitement using hash-tags on social media check it! ..found using #davidhockney
@smallest_m / @shaditolouiwallace / @dzem34 / @lattecosmico
now GRUB: I highly recommend Dosa in Valenca. Unfortunately, my phone died right as we got to the restaurant, so I will have to scour the net to impress you with their drool worthy plates, get a reservation because they fill up pretty damn quick! #YUM
Above: Chile Bhaji  Also, you must order the bhatura with any meal! It is sweet, fried and chewy- perfect to dip in any dish.

Now the Mission district, do a little shopping!!
Do not miss Laku on Valencia, designer Yaeko Yamashita began her career as a fashion designer in Asia, then moved her shop from New York to San Francisco. Every item in the shop is handmade: using both vintage and natural fabrics such as silk, cotton, velvet organdy and brocade. It's simply lovely!

that's all for now !! xoxo- C
